Flat Tire Syndrome & Change is an Action

Sue Lawlor-Rod

What happens when you get a flat tire? It must be changed if you desire to drive forward effectively. I once endured a season when I happened to have had an unreasonable number of flat tires. It was rough and pretty inexplicable. It became almost a habit and was entirely (no pun intended) outside of my control.

Do you ever feel like you are operating, metaphorically, with a ‘flat tire’ and you really want to make positive changes? I admire the way Steve Jobs considered change when he stated, "For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been no for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something."

What a powerful practice! I can relate to the discomfort that follows from the knowledge gained via this practice when I have noticed that my life is out of alignment! Do you know that feeling too?

What comes next? Curiosity! We have an information gap which feels very uncomfortable until we gain more knowledge. From his article, "The Psychology of Curiosity," George Lowenstein stated that curiosity may be understood as “a cognitive induced deprivation that arises from the perception of a gap in knowledge and understanding.”

Knowledge, Curiosity, and Clarity! We need all three to create an action plan.

When you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your values, your desires, and your strengths, you can move forward in a more fulfilling direction!

Taking action is powerful. Here are some ways I can help.
